The Electronics Research Laboratory (ERL) is an official lab of the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Thessaly.

Our lab focuses on producing research on high-performance electronic circuits and related design & analysis techniques, with particular emphasis on modern nanometer-scale of VLSI circuits. ERL has developed expertise on CAD tools and methodologies for Electronic Design Automation (EDA), particularly for studying and addressing complex power integrity, thermal reliability and timing analysis problems which will become more profound in forthcoming nano-scale circuits, as well as at 2.5D and 3D chiplet-based architectures. ERL provides novel solutions to the aforementioned areas always in sync with the present industrial design methodologies and commercial EDA tools.

Some of our research fields are:

  • Power delivery network analysis and optimization in VLSI circuits
  • Long-term reliability of VLSI circuits, with particular emphasis on Electromigration analysis
  • Chip/package-level thermal analysis and design for integrated circuits
  • Process variation aware timing analysis
  • Model Order Reduction techniques
  • Simulation techniques for large-scale RLC and electromagnetic models
  • Machine learning in EDA
  • Trojan Detection in Hardware Security
